Boy Scouts Of America Open Membership To Transgender Children

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is “deeply saddened and disturbed” by the Boy Scouts of America’s announcement that the organization will allow transgender youth into its programs.

The archdiocese put out a statement Tuesday saying that such action is contrary to the organization’s dedication to honor, service and “duty to God” by allowing “girls struggling with gender dysphoria into their troops.”

Allowing transgender children to identify as boys is “failing to recognize the fundamental order of God’s creation,” the statement continues.

“The fact is that human beings are born with a sexual identity and not merely a ‘gender identity’ of one’s choosing,” “This sexual identity affects the totality of the person in the unity of his or her body and soul, and it greatly affects one’s capacity to love and be loved.”

While the Boy Scouts have for years been an organization that could be trusted with “the formation of our youth, this policy directive is the latest in a troubling pattern of behavior exhibited by the Boy Scouts of America. It is clear that as they move in the ways of the world they are becoming increasingly incompatible with our Catholic values.”

The statement comes nearly a year after St. Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson issued a letter calling on parishes to seek alternatives to Girl Scouts, arguing that the program and related organizations conflict with Roman Catholic teaching. The letter said issues such as reproductive rights and abortion separate the church from Girl Scouts and related organizations.

The Boy Scouts made the announcement on Monday after weighing a case in New Jersey where an 8-year-old child had been asked to leave his Scout troop after parents and leaders found out he is transgender.

But the organization’s leadership said the change was made because of the larger conversation about gender identity going on around the country. The change went into effect immediately.

This news has caused me to edit and repost my blog on Gender Identity posted last year.  See Below:

“God created mankind in his image; in the image of God he created them; male and female; he created them. God blessed them and God said to them: Be fertile and multiply.” (GENESIS 1:27-28)

Recently, Pope Francis called Gender ideology demonic. In doing so, the Pope follows in the footsteps of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI.

According to the biblical creation account, being created by God as male and female pertains to the essence of the human creature. This duality is an essential aspect of what being human is all about, as ordained by God.

This very duality is what is now disputed. The words of the creation account: “male and female he created them” (Gen 1:27) no longer apply.

What applies now is this: it was not God who created them male and female – now we decide for ourselves. Man and woman as created realities no longer exist. Man calls his nature into question…. When the freedom to be creative becomes the freedom to create oneself, then necessarily the Maker himself is denied And it becomes clear when God is denied, human dignity also disappears.”

As you see from commentary of two previous Popes when Gender identity is coopted by man, God himself is denied.  “Gender identity” really hit social media in a big way when North Carolina passed a bill, addressing the issue of transgender and bathroom facilities.

Now everyone is suing everybody, gay rights advocates filed a lawsuit challenging the law’s legality, the Federal Government is suing the state for discrimination in violation of Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, interpreting the law as not just banning sex discrimination but also banning unequal treatment based on choice of gender for yourself, forget what a birth certificate says or the intention of the creator.  In Title IX legislation (1972), there was no attempt by Congress to include the question of gender identity. If they want to change the law, let Congress take it up and not impose it on us by executive order or unelected judges.

The Obama administration issued guidelines to all public schools that they must allow according to gender identity access to bathroom, locker rooms, and shower facilities to protect the privacy of the transgender student.

Isn’t privacy a two way street?  If transgender persons are given the legal right to use facilities of their choice, non-transgender persons will be required to disrobe, shower and perform personal bodily functions in the presence of those with intimate body parts different from their own. Don’t people who accept their birth gender have a right to privacy too!

The Merriam Dictionary has updated their definition of Gender Identity: your identity as it is experienced with regard to your individuality as male or female; an awareness normally begin in infancy and is reinforced during adolescence,  a person’s internal sense of being male, female, some combination of male and female, or neither male or female.  Forced into our culture by radical activists it is now informing our definitions and giving support to those who want to impose their agenda on everyone.  We must stand up and fight in these culture wars.

To discriminate (note differences) is not always a bad thing.  To note differences in good or appropriate behavior from bad or inappropriate behavior is not a bad thing. Not all things are the same.  Not all values are the same.  Not all things are safe.  Are we not obliged by our faith and conscience to discriminate between right and wrong, good and evil! We must speak truth to power and protect our rights, as well.  Religious Liberty is our first guaranteed right in the Bill of Rights of our Constitution.

2331 “God is love and in himself he lives a mystery of personal loving communion. Creating the human race in his own image . . .. “God created man in his own image . . . male and female he created them”;

2333 Everyone, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual identity. Physical, moral, and spiritual difference and complementarily are oriented toward the goods of marriage and the flourishing of family life.
